You walk into the boardroom, your idea crystal clear, but your nervous system whispers, “Tone it down, don’t make them uncomfortable.” So you trade conviction for diplomacy and call it collaboration.

The same neural circuitry that responds to physical pain lights up when we sense rejection (Eisenberger & Lieberman, 2004). Your brain literally interprets disapproval as danger.
